Chapter 4: Why it's especially effective for Japanese people
Why it's effective for Japanese people
"Hidden Obesity" Unique to Asians Although Japanese people may appear thinner than Westerners, they have a constitution that makes them prone to accumulating visceral fat. Therefore, a BMI of 25 or higher is considered obese (compared to 30 or higher in the West). This visceral fat significantly increases the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, and myocardial infarction.
Excellent results in Japanese
In the SURMOUNT-J trial, the average weight loss rate among Japanese people was approximately 18%.
What's notable is the weight loss success rate of over 5%:
-
Placebo group: 20%
-
Zepbound 10mg group: 94%
-
Zepbound 15mg group: 96%
Compatibility with Japanese food culture
It is also suitable for the carbohydrate-heavy Japanese diet, and many people have commented that "blood sugar levels do not rise as much when eating rice" and "my cravings for oily foods have decreased."
Dealing with side effects
The main side effects are nausea and diarrhea, but Japanese people tend to be able to control them well due to their cooperative attitude toward dosage adjustments and their habit of regular medical visits.
Long-term data shows hope
Follow-up studies over three years have shown that under certain conditions, it reduces the risk of developing diabetes by approximately 93-94%.
