What's the difference between Manjaro and Zepbound?
Here's an explanation of the differences between Mounjaro and Zepbound.
Mounjaro and Zepbound are both medications containing the active ingredient tirzepatide and have the same mechanism of action. However, they differ in their intended use and insurance coverage status.
Key Differences
Mounjaro
The first drug approved as a treatment for type 2 diabetes, aimed at controlling blood sugar levels. It is covered by health insurance for patients diagnosed with diabetes.
Zepbound
Approved later as an obesity treatment, with weight management as its primary goal. Currently in Japan, it is only covered by insurance under specific conditions.
Common Features
Both are dual receptor agonists that activate two receptors: GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1).
It is administered via a weekly injection.
It is effective for controlling blood sugar levels and promoting weight loss.
While the active ingredient and mechanism of action are the same, the major difference is that Mounjaro is specialized for diabetes treatment, whereas Zepbound is specialized for obesity treatment.
