This is a large-scale clinical trial program for the drug "ZepBound." It will be conducted worldwide from 2019 to 2025 and will target obesity and
It has shown breakthrough results for many patients struggling with weight management
Key Results
Great weight loss effect
In the first trial (SURMOUNT-1), obese patients without diabetes achieved an average weight loss of more than 20%, significantly exceeding results achieved with conventional medications.
Effective even in patients with diabetes
In SURMOUNT-2, even patients with type 2 diabetes achieved a weight loss of nearly 15%, and improvement in blood sugar control was also confirmed.
Synergistic effects with lifestyle improvements
In SURMOUNT-3, combining medication with lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise was shown to produce weight loss effects comparable to those achieved with surgery.
The importance of continuing treatment
In SURMOUNT-4, it was confirmed that those who continued taking the medication were able to maintain their weight loss, while those who stopped taking the medication regained weight, making it clear that "obesity is a chronic disease."
Effect on complications
Improvements were also confirmed in the treatment of sleep apnea syndrome (SURMOUNT-OSA) and in the prevention of diabetes (SURMOUNT-1 extension study).
Comparison with other drugs
The latest SURMOUNT-5 study showed that this drug had a greater weight loss effect than semaglutide (Ozempic/Ugovi), demonstrating its superiority.
Safety
The side effects observed in the SURMOUNT study group were mainly gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and diarrhea. Most were mild to moderate, and most cases improved with continued administration. Based on testing on thousands of people worldwide, these side effects are considered predictable and manageable.
